job responsibilties

  1. Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive HSE Management System aligned with Nigerian regulations and global best practices.
  2. Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulations, including requirements from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), NESREA, and the Federal Ministry of Environment.
  3. Manage all HSE-related permits, licences, filings, and statutory returns.
  4. Lead and coordinate the design, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of safety and fire protection systems, including both active and passive fire protection systems, PPE, and first aid equipment.
  5. Conduct regular risk assessments across operational sites, identify hazards, and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
  6. Maintain accurate incident and accident records, including reporting, trend analysis, and recommendations for corrective actions.
  7. Design and deliver HSE induction programmes and continuous safety training for staff, contractors, and site personnel.
  8. Promote and sustain a strong safety-first culture through awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, and leadership engagement initiatives.

requirements

  1. Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline. (A Master’s degree is an added advantage.)
  2. 5–8 years of HSE experience, experience within the telecommunications industry is required.
  3. Relevant HSE certification such as NEBOSH International General Certificate or equivalent is required.
  4. Membership of a recognised HSE professional body such as ISPON, IOSH, or NISP is required.
  5. Previous experience establishing or building an HSE function is highly desirable.
