job responsibilties
- Develop, implement, and maintain a comprehensive HSE Management System aligned with Nigerian regulations and global best practices.
- Ensure full compliance with all applicable regulations, including requirements from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), NESREA, and the Federal Ministry of Environment.
- Manage all HSE-related permits, licences, filings, and statutory returns.
- Lead and coordinate the design, installation, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of safety and fire protection systems, including both active and passive fire protection systems, PPE, and first aid equipment.
- Conduct regular risk assessments across operational sites, identify hazards, and implement appropriate mitigation measures.
- Maintain accurate incident and accident records, including reporting, trend analysis, and recommendations for corrective actions.
- Design and deliver HSE induction programmes and continuous safety training for staff, contractors, and site personnel.
- Promote and sustain a strong safety-first culture through awareness campaigns, toolbox talks, and leadership engagement initiatives.
requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related discipline. (A Master’s degree is an added advantage.)
- 5–8 years of HSE experience, experience within the telecommunications industry is required.
- Relevant HSE certification such as NEBOSH International General Certificate or equivalent is required.
- Membership of a recognised HSE professional body such as ISPON, IOSH, or NISP is required.
- Previous experience establishing or building an HSE function is highly desirable.
